Il se veut une vue d'ensemble et s'appuie sur sa genèse et son évolution à partir d'un corpus de films représentatifs dans lesquels on retrouve les films des pionniers comme Moustapha Alassane, Oumarou Ganda et ceux de la nouvelle génération tel Moussa Hamadou Djingarey. Malgré l'ancrage du cinéma nigérien dans la sous-région, au Niger, on note peu d'écrits scientifiques pour suivre son évolution d'où son choix, qui se justifie tout d'abord, par l'importance du cinéma sur le plan social, des rapports qu'il entretient avec les autres arts, de son ancrage sur le continent africain à travers la production des années 60-80, les distinctions des films nigériens, les participations aux festivals et l'organisation des rencontres cinématographiques au Niger.
